This was less of a woodwork project than a carpentry construction task, but even so I was happy to take it on. The request was to cut to shape and set up a TV wall ready for the electrician to install the wiring and pop the TV on the wall.
Starting with a pain wall, the slatted sheets were purchased by the client, but that left the somewhat tricky task of cutting for an exact fit around the fireplace. I have to be honest…. I cheated a little. You’d never notice from the images, but in order to ensure a black line down both sides of the fireplace, there’s an extra slat on one side so the whole thing is offset to one side by about 20mm. (I’ll leave you to count the slats if you want to know which side the offset ended up!)
As well as cutting around the fireplace, a gap had to be left for electrical sockets to be installed along with the TV mount.
If you’re ever going to attempt a similar project, make sure you know how high on the TV the mounting points are. Having insisted we checked, I was relieved I had because they were towards the bottom of the TV. If we’d guessed that they were in the middle then once mounted the TV would have been touching the ceiling!
Wiring was run not only for the power but also a couple of HDMI cables plus the power cables for the lights which run down both sides of the slats. This all had to run behind the slatted wall so that once fully installed nothing is on show.
While the finished results look amazing, these are client pictures after the installation was completed, I have to admit that it didn’t look quite so impressive when I left as the wires were left hanging and the TV mount wasn’t fitted but these were tasks best left to a professional electrician!
Once buttoned up and completed however, this looks amazing and the client were over the moon!
