When faced with a glass topped tubular steel table that had rusted and was literally on it’s last legs, I was asked to make a replacement from oak that would stand the test of time (and the weather!).

The brief was a round table four feet in diameter and that was the original plan, but having made an octagonal top and was just preparing to machine into a circle, the customer saw it and loved the shape so much they asked to keep it eight sided. Each side is 2 feet long – the perfect size to draw a garden chair up to so it’s either very generous room for four, or could be used as an eight seater.

The worst part of most tables is that someone always gets a leg in the way, so to avoid this the legs were mounted on stretches meaning there’s no side of the table that a chair can’t be drawn up to. Finally, to finish, a mount was added with holes for a garden umbrella to add some shade on the hot summer days.
