When Starmaker gave me a broken electronic keyboard and asked me to make two full size pianos as theatre props, I knew I had my work cut out. One should be old, stained and shabby looking while the other had to look like a brand new expensive piano, both to be used in the same production of ‘Little Women’.
The solution was to make the shabby stained piano, and then build a second skin that can be slotted over the top to transform it into the brand new piano.
Rather than use expensive timber and spend weeks french polishing it, this was made of ply and MDF and the finishes are merely hand applied paint effects.
