When I made this and sent a friend a picture of it, they actually thought I was about to install a new fireplace in my house! But trust me, it’s made of wood, definitely not fireproof, and was part of the stage scenery for a production of ‘Little Women’ by Starmaker.
Using a genuine cast iron grate, some branches for firewood that were trimmed from my cherry tree a couple of years ago, coupled with some Victorian tile effect and chalkboard paint on the wood to imitate cast iron, once dressed this really did look amazing on stage.
It was finished off with a flickering stage light to imitate flames and once the show was over has been safely stored away for use in future productions.
