Too often when a cast iron and wood bench reaches the end of it’s life it’s simply discarded, but the ends will be good for centuries and all that’s needed is a lick of paint and new slats.

My choice for this bench was sapele slats finished in teak oil, and I favour dome head coach bolts to fix the slats to the frames as not only do I prefer the look, but it also retains the full thickness of the timber rather than drilling for recessed bolts (which also then creates traps for rainwater reducing the life span due to rot).
