Several people have seen my end grain chopping boards, but this is my first request for a custom shaped board. “Can you make it heart shaped” was the question, and the answer is yes!
Ok, so there are some obvious drawbacks, not least of which is that the size of the board is compromised as effectively the two bottom corners of a rectangular board are cut off and the top rounded over. However, if you’re not worried about the size (and it’s still fairly big) then it’s a fantastic result.
With the windmill design running down the centre line of this board, it’s stunning, about an inch and a quarter thick and mounted on three rubber feet. Finished as usual with mineral oil, a quick recoat of oil whenever it looks dry is all this board will ever need.
