Having seen the chess board we made last year, and having some scrap wood…. the old bench slats from a garden seat we renovated… the owner of the seat asked if we could use the wood and upcycle it into a chess board?
Well we’re still not certain what the old seat slats were made of, but they’re definitely some type of hardwood so marrying it up with some oak we had in stock we were happy to oblige.
Delivered and ready for him to teach his son to play chess, there’s something rather satisfying about the old rejected garden bench slats having a second life with the same family – especially as once machined up to get rid of the weathering they turned out to be beautiful hardwood with lovely grain and way too good for the burn pile.
