It’s always sad when a loved pet dies and so when “Max”, a customers cat, died they requested a special memorial casket for his ashes.
The wood requested was purpleheart, an exotic hardwood that really is purple. The casket shape was designed to either lay flat or stand upright so that the plaque is at the front.
The contrasting beechwood plaque was made engraved with the customers chosen wording.
Unusually, as this was such a personal commission, the customer was invited to my workshop to see Max’s ashes placed inside the box with a card message before the lid was glued permanently shut, following which the box was sanded and buffed to a good finish before a protective wax finish.
